MOTION NO. 10
MOTION: Councillor C. Jones
"That the Manager will outline plans to seek the cooperation of local businesses to avoid using the Newcastle Road in the vicinity of the schools at opening and closing times with HGVs. That the Manager will further outline measures taken to improve safety in this area in the interim."
REPORT:
The use of the Newcastle road by HGV’s has been studied. It is evident that there is a reduction in HGV traffic during the busiest time for school access. There are many sources for HGV traffic on Newcastle Road, local business is one such source, others include deliveries to domestic and commercial premises that do not operate HGV’s.
Given the low numbers of HGV’s it is proposed that co-operation of local businesses to avoid using the Newcastle Road in the vicinity of the schools be sought through the joint SPC and this be supported by any recommendations arising form the joint SPC sub group.
