MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

QUESTION NO. 1

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

"To compliment the work of the staff members involved in promoting and encouraging the Tidy Towns concept in the County and to ask the Manager for an updated report on the setting up of Tidy Town Groups/Committees in Palmerston and Lucan?"

REPLY:

A public meeting was held in Tallaght Stadium in February promoting the national Tidy Towns programme.  Since then a series of local meeting have been held in towns and villages.  This initiative has resulted in the formation of Tidy Town groups in Clondalkin, Palmerston and Rathfarnham.

Lucan Tidy Towns have been the sole entry from the County in the national competition to date. This group continues to play an active part in preparing the village for Tidy Towns - litter picking, planting, clearing shrubs, painting etc.  Members of the group spoke of their experiences at the Tidy Towns talk in Tallaght Stadium and their information was extremely useful to other groups considering setting up a Tidy Towns group.

A number of meetings have been held in Palmerston and a Tidy Towns committee has been formed.  Palmerston will enter in the Tidy Towns competition this year. The group also plan to launch an Adopt a Patch campaign to encourage everyone in Palmerston to get involved.

The groups are being supported by the Council through the Social Credits System.

Compliments will be passed to the staff involved.
