SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

HEADED ITEM NO. 4
Relocation of 'Clondalkin Namestone' at the N7/Boot Road Junction
REPLY:
The Newlands Cross Upgrade Scheme will be constructed as part of a Public Private Partnership scheme. The contract is expected to be signed in early July 2012 and work is expected to commence shortly after that.
The Clondalkin namestone is currently situated within the curtilage of the site boundary, relating to the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme requires that the two existing wayside memorials at Boot Road shall be moved to a suitable and safe location within the Site during the Design and Construction Period and reinstated in suitable locations within the permanent landtake. The PPP Company is required to consult with the Authority’s Representative concerning the relocation of these memorials. The Authority in this instance is the National Roads Authority.
As this is a Design/Build type Scheme the final design of this junction and the impact of future roadworks on the site of the namestone is not fully determined. In the interim it may be possible to relocate the stone to a permanent position on the margin fronting Boot Road, which lies outside the curtilage of the proposed Road Scheme boundary. The NRA and Kildare County Council Project Team will be contacted to examine the options available here.
