MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

MOTION NO. 16

MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

"That this Area Committee requests the Manager to engage with CPLN Area Partnership, Co. Dublin VEC, the County Enterprise Board & Enterprise Ireland to examine options for the provision of an Enterprise Centre and ‘jobs hub’ in the Lucan South/Adamstown area, in including through the leasing of currently vacant premises, for the purpose of initially providing physical space such as 'hot-desks' (and at later stage 'incubator units 'for business start-ups, in suitable premises) as well as providing a base for Local Employment Services and for training programmes run by CPLN Area Partnership, Co. Dublin VEC and other bodies."

REPORT:

Details are awaited in relation to the proposed programme in "Action Plan for Jobs 2012" which states:

Establish a new Community Enterprise Development Programme for the maintenance or establishment of a strong business development function in the Community Enterprise Centres funded by Enterprise Ireland.  This will see up to 30 centres benefit from a full-time business development function, providing a 50% grant towards eligible costs or €50,000 over two years.

In the meantime, whilst it appears that this objective refers to existing Centres, this Council will engage with Enterprise Ireland through the economic sub-group of the County Development Board, including the local development companies,  in respect of the Community Enterprise Centre Business Development Programme 2012 to identify the potential for providing such a centre in the Lucan Area.
