MOTION NO 4.
MOTION: Councillor M. Devine
That the Manager report on the feasability of installing CCTV in the Fettercairn Crescent area due to continual damage to cars parked there by residents.
REPORT: There is an existing community-based CCTV camera system in operation in the Brookfield -Fettercairn area which was provided by Partas under a grant scheme introduced by the then Department of Justice Equality & Law Reform and following an extensive local consultation process . This scheme consists of 8 no. cameras including one in the vicinity of Fettercairn Community Centre. These cameras are monitored by Gardai in Tallaght Garda Station.
The key objectives in providing this CCTV camera Scheme were
· Assistance in the maintenance of public order and safety
· Assistance in the prevention, detection and investigation of offences
· Assistance in the prosecution of offenders
All incidents of criminal damage referred to should be reported to the Gardai who can review archived footage from the cameras and take appropriate action.
The grant scheme referred to above is closed and there is no prospect of it being re-opened by the Department in the current financial climate.
