MOTION: Councillor M. Devine

That the Manager update members on the Allotments SDCC let to the public in  this Committee area,  with particular reference to the waiting list and the frequency of assessments.

REPORT:

Of the 257 allotments currently in the County, 145 are currently in the administrative area of this Committee with 13 plots in Tymon Park and 132 in Friarstown. These plots are inspected on a monthly basis to ensure they are being properly used and managed.

There are currently 522 applicants on the waiting list for allotments throughout the County and allotments becoming available are allocated on a first come first served basis. Applications can be made at any time by residents of the County. Where applicants at the top of the waiting list and due to be allocated a plot are found to be no longer living in the County or are no longer interested in taking an allotment they are removed form the waiting list.

To date in 2012, nine plots have been re-let at Friarstown with one further plot currently due to be relet while two plots have been relet in Tymon with one additional plot due to be relet there once some minor maintenance works are carried out.
