QUESTION NO. 2
QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner
A constituent has to dress a skin graft wound on her son daily. A large quantity of used dressings are produced. To ask the Manager if these can be put into the black bin or is there a requirement that they would be disposed of as medical waste?
REPLY:
While medical waste would generally be classified as waste generated from medical and healthcare facilities as opposed to domestic residences, it include needles, unused medicines/chemicals as well as soft items such as blood soaked bandages, swabs, protective gloves etc. which should be appropriately disposed of. Customers should check with their service provider regarding specific arrangements for disposal of medical waste.
