QUESTION NO. 23

QUESTION: Councillor M. McDonagh

To ask the Manager to provide a report on the CCTV system at the children's play areas in Balgaddy detailing how the system operates, whether records are kept from the cameras and if so for how long and detailing whether the camera system is automatically or manually operated and detailing the full cost of setting up and managing the system on an annual basis?

REPLY:

As part of the DOEHLG funding received in 2010, and at the request of the local residents during the Part 8 planning process, a monitored CCTV system was installed to the Multi Use Games Area and the playgrounds at Balgaddy.

The CCTV system consists of cameras and a motion activated sensor.  The footage from the camera is recorded locally and is downloadable within a period of 31 days.  South Dublin County Council also have a monitoring contract with a monitoring company.  The monitoring company monitors the cameras during the hours of darkness.  Once the motion sensor is activated the company logs in and monitors activity.  If anti social activity, vandalism etc is occurring they issue verbal warning and/or notify the Gardai as the situation warrants.

The CCTV at Balgaddy was vandalised last year and was removed to prevent damage to the equipment.  There are some remedial repairs and preventative works that are required prior to its re-installation.  These have been commissioned and there is a delivery lead in time for the replacement equipment which is specifically manufactured to required specifications.
