MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, May 08, 2012

MOTION NO. 2

MOTION: Councillor E. Coburn

"That this Committee discuss with the aid of a report the planned follow up for Rathfarnham Village following the meeting of 27 February with the Rathfarnham Traders Association & SDCC representatives".

REPORT:

This project is part of the ongoing work of the Planning and Development SPC. Members of the SPC subgroup met with representatives from both the Lucan and Rathfarnham traders on the 27th of Feb last. Subsequent to this a number of steps have been taken:

A number of cross departmental meetings have been held to progress this project.

Following a public meeting on Tidy Towns held in Tallaght Stadium  in February, follow up meetings in local areas have been arranged. The Rathfarnham Village Tidy Towns meeting takes place in Rathfarnham village on Tuesday 1st May @ 7.30pm. Invitations have gone to  Residents associations, Community groups and interested parties in the area. It is hoped that as a result of this meeting a local Tidy Towns committee will be formed to coordinate a community wide approach to making Rathfarnham a better place to live, work and visit.

In order to promote the historical aspects of Rathfarnham village and its surrounds and to make this information accessible to all, a historical walk has been developed by the local studies section of the Library Service. The disemination of this walk will be further considered.

An ten minute grace period has been enacted for the public pay and display parking in the vaillage. Signs have been erected and the matter is being monitored.

In conjunction with South Dublin Tourism and a local photography club will use Rathfarnham and Lucan villages as the basis for a photography competition. Arrangements are in place but is weather dependent. This excersise will allow for the creation of a specific stock of images which may be used for furture marketing/ promotion.

The Committee will be kept informed of progress.
