MOTION NO. 8
MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins
That the Manager provides a detailed report on the exercise equipment being installed in parks throughout Lucan and Palmerston, what locations have been identified and what public consultation was entered into with local residents and organisations.
REPORT:
It is proposed to install 10 items of equipment in the following parks in the Lucan/Palmerston area - Griffeen Valley Park, Hermitage Park and Waterstown Park. The equipment chosen will enable a combination of toning, flexing and strengthening exercises to be undertaken by the user. Consultation with Stewarts Hospital staff took place at the tender evaluation stage. The staff in the hospital have experience of dealing with elderly people and active retired groups. Their physical therapists also reviewed the equipment and provided advice and guidance in relation to the most appropriate equipment.
The Sports Centre Manager at Lucan Sports and Leisure Centre was also consulted with in relation to the equipment. Again the Manger has experience of fitness plans for elderly people and was able to provide guidance on the most appropriate equipment to choose.
Input from Active Retired Groups will be obtained as far as possible, having regard to the timeframe available for the completion of the works.
