To ask the Manager to detail proposals for the introduction of Wi-Fi areas in public spaces throughout Lucan and Palmerston?
REPLY:
South Dublin County Council has been involved in the setup of Wi-Fi facilities at the following locations:-
All SDCC Libraries:-
Community Centres:-
Other:-
Public Wi-Fi facilities are available at all of the above locations, free of charge to public users.
Heaviest usage of the service by the public is at SDCC libraries, where in excess of 27,000 Wi-Fi sessions were recorded during 2011.
South Dublin County Council will continue to support the roll-out of free public Wi-Fi to our facilities.
With direct reference in the Question to Wi-Fi facilities in Lucan and Palmerston, it should be noted that these have been referred to in the listing above, with wireless currently available in Lucan Library and also Stewarts Hospital Library and Coach House.
The Information Technology Department, in conjunction with other Directorates continues to examine the feasibility of rollout to more locations.
