MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

That the Manager would present a report on projects or activities in the Lucan EA which have received support, in terms of finance, staff or assistance with accommodation from the County Childcare Committee?

REPORT:

South Dublin County Childcare Committee was established in 2002 with the following mission: "To strategically co-ordinate the sustainable development of an accessible and holistic quality childcare infrastructure in South Dublin County."  The Committee is an independent legally constituted entity which draws its funding from the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. It is based in the Civic Offices in Clondalkin and pays rent and rates to SDCC.  The Committee administers funding schemes for the DCYA.  Its staff offer advice and support to all Early Childhood Care and Education providers, Childminders, Community crèches and Parent and Toddler groups.  Its action budget is €43,000 which is expended on the organisation of Fetac levels 5 and 6 training for providers, networking opportunities and seminars for childcare providers and it publishes a number of documents providing support for the sector. It operates across the county as a whole and does not differentiate between areas. It does not provide any direct funding to organisations in terms of accommodation. All expenditure is subject to approval by Pobal. The Coordinator of the CCC is Jean Courtney.  SDCCC is a constituent member of the County Development Board and reports to each meeting

The Children's Services Committee Coordinator is Maria Donohoe.  The Children's Services Committee is also a member of the County Development Board
