MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

QUESTION NO. 12

QUESTION: Councillor G. O'Connell

To ask the Manager for a progress report on the implementation of measures to make more effective the 3 Tonne limit on Kennelsfort Road as promised during the debate arising from my recent motion on the matter at the Lucan Area Committee?

REPLY:

The issue of heavy goods vehicles on Kennelsfort Road has been the subject of concern for local residents and Councillors for a considerable period of time.  Extensive efforts have been undertaken by both the Council and Gardaí to address these concerns. Major investment in neighbouring roads has been undertaken in recent years. While this has created an environment to improve the situation vis-a-vis alternative routes, nonetheless,  provision has to be made for traffic wishing to access local commercial premises.

This matter was discussed at the February meeting of the Committee at which an undertaking was given to examine the possibility of a permit system for those heavy goods vehicles wishing to access local commercial premises.  This is currently being examined with a view to presenting a report to a future meeting of the committee.

The issue of HGV movememt within the county will be discussed at a Joint Economic Development and Transportation SPC Meeting on 2nd May 2012.
