COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE

MOTION NO. 18
MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
That this Area Committee requests the Manager, further to the briefing held in February on foot of my previous request, to present detailed proposals for provision of a safer and more efficient junction arrangement for motorists seeking to exit from Chalet Gardens on to Lucan Road.
REPORT:
The location has been examined. It is noted that visibility at the stop line is sufficient to observe if suitable gaps are present in oncoming traffic and a yellow box is provided. Traffic on the Lucan Road is controlled by junction signals at Chapel Hill to the west and Ballyowen Road to the east. This arrangement gives rise to platoons of vehicles moving along the road interspersed with gaps. The gaps in traffic were observed to be of reasonable length and allow several vehicles exit Chalet Gardens.
The introduction of traffic signals would have to maintain the balance in traffic flows along Lucan Road as any bias towards Chalet Gardens would divert traffic to Chalet Gardens as compensation for lost capacity on Lucan Road. It is not proposed to install traffic signals at the junction of Lucan Road and Chalet Gardens.
