COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 24, 2012
MOTION NO. 17
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
That in reference to Motion No. 7 on the agenda of the Lucan Area Committee meeting of 24th January 2012, the Manager would arrange for measures, including the installation of warning signs painted on the road surface, and/or signage on the traffic signal poles, and liaison with An Garda Síochána, to prevent drivers of vehicles along Kennelsfort Road, stopping on that part of the road at the signals on Lower Kennelsfort Road, Palmerston, which should be clear when the signals allow pedestrians to cross, as this practice of many drivers of blocking the pedestrian route is a continuing source of concerns to residents, including parents, as pedestrians, especially children, attempt to cross between vehicles at points not directly at the crossing.
REPORT:
There are no signs or roadmarkings in the Traffic Signs Manual specific to the issue raised. This matter was discussed at the Area Committee Meeting in February 2012. The concerns expressed by the Members at that Meeting were referred to the local Gardai. The Gardai were informed that during periods of congestion and particularly on Fridays some motorists are in the habit of stopping on the crossing area, making it difficult and dangers for Pedestrians to cross the road. In view of the serious concerns expressed by the Members the Gardai were requested to give this matter special attention and revert to the Council with their findings. Their response is awaited.
