MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor T. Gilligan

That this Committee arranges to have the clothes bank on Monastery Road removed.  Vans coming to empty this bin park on double yellow lines on the opposite side of the road.  By doing this they block the view of drivers coming from Castle Park on to Monastery Road, drivers turning right at this junction are in serious danger, more so than those turning left. I have spoken to the police in Clondalkin about this and they advised me to contact the Council as they cannot do anything about it unless they actually see the vans on the yellow lines.  Can the Council please remove this bin before someone is killed or at least instruct the drivers to park elsewhere while they empty it?

REPORT:

The Senior Executive Engineer and the Area Engineer inspected the textile bank that is located on the Monastery Road on 10th April.  The textile bank is located within a car parking area off the Monastery Road. The Council examined the textile bank to identify ownership of the unit. The only identifying mark is a mobile phone number. All other labels are faded.

If the textile bank is on private property the Council cannot remove the unit but we will endeavour to contact the owners to inform them that the action of emptying the bank is impacting on the traffic flow and to arrange for alternative action to be taken.
