QUESTION NO. 16

QUESTION: Councillor T. Delaney

To ask the Manager to report on the recent development regarding the lack of vehicular access to Saggart Cemetery and consider options to enable older residents attend the graveyard?

REPLY:

The entrance into Saggart cemetery is via a set of iron gates in the main street that leads down a short roadway to the stone archway of the cemetery.  Following complaints regarding the access arrangements, the Council has made a decision to leave these entrance gates open for vehicular access and to place a lockable removable bollard beneath the stone archway. This action will facilitate those individuals who wish to travel to the graveyard and those who use the mobility-impaired parking space. This bollard would be removed between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm every working day to facilitate access.

The bollard was installed by the Council  in March and during the week of April 2nd the unit was stolen.  The Council will be replacing the bollard and until this is in situ the main gates will be opened between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm and then one gate will be shut.
