MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, April 18, 2012

MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

That this Committee recommends the planting of some mature trees outside the beautiful and historic library building during the Autumn planting season.  This would be a fitting addition to celebrations of the centenary of Clondalkin Library.  There is already some lovely planting of flowers at the library.  There is, however room and need for a strong statement which the planting of some beautiful trees would make.

REPORT:

The Council would support any proposals aimed at enhancing the presentation of the historic Library building in Clondalkin Village, in the context of the forthcoming Centenary celebrations. The footpath in front of the building is however relatively narrow and there may not be enough space to plant trees.  However this can be examined in consultation with the Architects Department, to ensure that any proposed tree planting would not obstruct pedestrians using the footpath/ramp or block light getting into the building. The area would also have to be examined for underground services to ensure that no conflicts arise and funding would also have to be identified for the work.  This exercises will be carried out over the coming weeks.
