MOTION NO. 6

MOTION: Councillor P. Cosgrave

"That the Manager design and build a Children’s Playground at the green area of Whitechurch Place and Whitechurch Court."

REPORT:

The Playground Construction Programme agreed with the Elected Members in 2006 and arising from the Council’s Play Policy contains six locations where playgrounds are to be constructed.  Of the six only three have so far been progressed to date due to the uncertainty concerning funding.  Whitechurch estate has not been included in the programme.  However, there is a review of the Play Policy underway at present and there will be a similar review of the Playground Construction Programme and areas which have been highlighted by the Elected Members as suitable for playgrounds will be considered in the review.

Nevertheless, should be noted that based on experience gained to date the areas most suitable for playgrounds are those located in well supervised locations, e.g. Regional Park, Community Centres. It is not considered that Whitechurch is suitable for a playground location based on the experience gained to date.
