QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart
To ask the Manager that if houses are flooded along a particular road, is that area subsequently designated as an area prone to flooding?
REPLY:
The fact that because houses on a particular road flooded due to a particular weather event does not necessarily mean that this area will be subsequently designated as an area prone to flooding.
The reason for the flooding has to be taken into account when designating an area as an area prone to flooding . The reason may be something as simple as blocked gullys, a sewer choke or tree roots growing into pipes all of which can be easily remedied making the event an once off and unlikely to reoccur.
Areas designated as areas prone to flooding are usually near rivers and tend to be in their flood plains.
