COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 10, 2012
MOTION NO. 11
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"To ask the Manager to inspect the wall at lower Dodder Road (raised by Dodder residents at a recent deputations Meeting) adjacent to the river Dodder - which, in the view of residents is not of sufficient strength to withstand flood waters, and if it collapsed, would result in widespread flooding of properties along this stretch of road?"
REPORT:
A visual inspection of the wall along part of the Dodder Road Lower shows some slight cracking in the concrete capping at the top of the wall but this can be easily repaired if it deteriorates substantially as has already happened in places. Considering that this wall withstood the raging torrents in the Dodder River after the deluge on the 24th of October 2012 and kept the flood waters from all the houses in this general area this speaks volumes for its structural integrity.
