COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF RATHFARNHAM AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, April 10, 2012
MOTION NO. 15
MOTION: Councillor J. Lahart
"That this Committee supports a process of prioritising, in conjunction with the Gardai in Rathfarnham, the implementation of penalties for double yellow lines and other traffic infringements that guarantees enforcement of traffic laws and utilises Garda resources efficiently."
REPORT:
The Council is empowered under Section 95 of the Road Traffic Act 1961 as amended, subject to the consent of the Garda Commissioner, to install regulatory signs such as double yellow lines, yield/stop signs etc. on public roads. The enforcement of these measures is a matter for the Gardai. As the Committee is aware, a bi-monthly meeting is held with the Members to discuss issues concerning the installation/enforcement of regulatory signs. A Garda Sergeant who is a representative of the Traffic Division from the Dublin Metropolitan Region in Dublin Castle attends these meetings. He liases with the Gardai in the local Garda Stations and it is acknowledged that he gives the Council every assistance in the enforcement of these signs.
If there are concerns regarding the enforcements of specific regulatory signs, such issues can be discussed with the Garda representative.
