QUESTION NO. 14
QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
To ask the Manager if he will request the Roads Department to investigate the possibility of improving the availability and design of disabled parking spaces in Lucan Village, with a view to providing more spaces perpendicular to rather than parallel to the footpath, and wider than the standard space?
REPLY:
The provision of individual disabled parking spaces will be inspected in Lucan Village. Currently there are three disabled parking spaces within the Pay and Display area of Lucan; two are perpendicular and one is parallel. This configuration results form parallel parking within most of the village. A disabled space is also provided in the carpark on Lucan Road at Lucan Heights. When disabled spaces are provided they comply with requirements for access and egress for passengers as prescribed in the Traffic Signs Manual.
Enforcement of parking in Lucan has maintained correct access to these spaces and fines are double that for non payment of parking. Should spaces be unavailable disabled permit holders can park for free on display of their permit.
