SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF LUCAN AREA COMMITTEE
Tuesday, March 27, 2012
MOTION NO. 23
MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
Noting the content of the letter from Minister Varadkar (under correspondence at the February Lucan ACM ) in reply to correspondence from the Council regarding a Motion which called for the immediate opening of Kishogue Station, and noting correspondence from Iarnród Éireann dated 5 January referring, inter alia, to Kishogue Station, that this Committee resolves that it will pursue the early opening of the station as a priority action that the Manager conveys the views of the Committee to both the National Transport Authority and Iarnród Éireann and further requests the Manager to advise if any survey has been done by the Planning Department, similar to the work done some time ago, into the level of interest amongst residents of south Lucan, in changing from car commuting to public transport, in particular buses and trains on the Kildare Route line.
REPORT:
If the motion is passed the matter will be referred to the National Transport Authority and Iarnród Éireann for their attention and when a reply is received the Committee will be notified accordingly.
It is understood that it is the intention of the NTA and Irish Rail to open Kishogue station before the end of this year. Household travel surveys are being carried out in the Lucan and Clondalkin areas in March / April 2012 as part of the SDCC Travel Smart Communities Programme. This is to establish the baseline travel situation prior to engagement in a personalised travel planning process (PTP). The SDCC Travel Smart Communities programme will assist in promoting modal shift from cars to public transport and other sustainable modes of travel and is the subject of a separate report to this meeting.
