QUESTION NO. 10

QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner

To ask the Manager what is the situation with regard to the obsolete and very unsightly telephone boxes in the centre of Clondalkin Village? They are becoming a health and safety risk.  I am referring particularly to one outside the Laurels Pub on New Road, one opposite the Steering Wheel Pub on Main Street and one outside Tesco on Convent Road.  Who is responsible for removing these and can the Council please ensure that this is done?

REPLY:

Attempts were made to contact the operator of the public phone booths in Clondalkin Village in 2010. While originally operated by Esat, they were then taken over by Smart Telecom. This firm appear to have transferred responsibility to British Telecom.  However BT forwarded the enquiry to a firm called i-Point. Numerous attempts to contact i-Point have met with no response.

It has therefore been decided to remove the two kiosks.  A quotation is being sought from our electrical contractor to disconnect all electrical supplies to the two former Esat kiosks. The contractor will be requested to remove the kiosks and reinstate and make safe the area.
