MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, March 21, 2012

MOTION NO. 23

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

That the Manager would present a report on what is planned to address the problem of flooding in the Woodford area of Clondalkin.

REPORT:

Since the meeting with some of the residents in Woodford Downs on the 6th of February 2012, additional gullys and road drains have been installed at the hammerhead of the cul de sac in Woodford Downs which should alleviate flooding from the road and the green area at the back of the wall here. The area around the opening in the same wall leading from this cul de sac to the parkland area has been cleared of all soil and debris. The foul sewerage main from these houses in Woodford Downs, Nos 74 to 86 (even), upstream to Boomer's Pub has been jetted and flushed and all the manholes cleaned out including the grit trap on this sewer line near the pub.

There is no easy solution to the intermittent problems that the houses, 74 to 86 (even) Woodford Downs, have with their foul sewer drain. There is a capacity problem with the foul sewer main on the Woodford Downs road during heavy rain due to the amount of surface water getting into the foul system due to misconnections and damaged pipes.  The obvious solution is to run an overflow foul pipe from a manhole in the parkland near the M50 downstream of these houses under the Camac River to the 9B foul trunk sewer on the other side of the river.  However, this solution would be very expensive and could only be undertaken when funds become available to the Council.
