QUESTION NO. 11

QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle

To ask the Manager to report on the current manpower available to the direct labour crews working in the areas of water supply and water drainage; and to advise on management’s proposals to maintain the manpower levels of these crews?

REPLY:

There are three maintenance crews in the Water supply and three maintenance crews in the Drainage area. In addition there are two specific Sewer Jetter Machine crews. The Council has lost three members of these Direct Labour crews in the Water & Drainage sections due to retirement recently.

The loss of staff in particular from frontline areas requires management to restructure and rationalise to enable work requirements to be met. Management is focussed on maintaining frontline services and addressing areas where staff deficits which have arisen. Whilst this is difficult in light of the ongoing recruitment embargo, management will work within the overall staff resources available to the council and work to maintain service levels.
