QUESTION NO. 13
QUESTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
To ask the Manager to provide a report on the most recent water quality testing in the Liffey river catchment area (including tributaries)?
REPLY:
There are four sampling points on the River Liffey in the South Dublin County Council area from Leixlip Bridge down to the Knockmaroon Footbridge. Three of the sample points are downstream of the Leixlip Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). Most of these sample point results show slightly elevated quantities of ammonical nitrogen and molbydate reactive phosphorus in the water samples. With the one upstream of the WWTP showing slightly elevated quantities of molbydate reactive phosphorus only, probable from agricultural run off in most results. The most recent sample results for the River Griffeen at Lucan Village show slightly elevated quantities of bacteria in the water samples which may be partially explained by road runoff and domestic misconnections. None of these results should deter water users on the Liffey be they swimmers, anglers or kayerers from enjoying the many amenities on the Liffey.
