MOTION: Councillor E. Tuffy
That the Manager would advise the Committee of the number of requests for maintenance/repairs received from residents of the 16 flats at Sarsfield Close, Lucan since January 2010, and that he would present for discussion at the meeting a report on the types of maintenance/repairs carried out in that period, including work on individual flats and works to repair/maintain any of the 4 blocks, as opposed to individual flats.
REPORT:
This development consists of 16 one-bedroom units in 4 two storey blocks. This development was constructed in 1970. The entire complex is designated a senior citizens complex. Gas heating was installed in all the blocks between 1999 and 2004. A full electrical rewire was carried out on all the units. An upgrading programme was completed in 2007. This work included the installation of fire escapes on the upper floors, double glazed aluminum windows in all units and timber hall doors with night latches and chubb-locks and in addition patio doors were installed in the ground floor bedrooms. The coal bunker was removed from the kitchens in order to give more space and they were upgraded. Internal, external decoration, driveway improvements and landscaping works were also carried out. Perspex surrounds and roofs were installed on patios and balconies. The gutters are currently being cleared and jackdaw guards are being installed on all the chimneys that do not have this guard. The mobile caretaker maintains the gardens at the rear of the complex on a regular basis and the Parks Department maintains the green open space in front of this complex. 131 maintenance requests were received since 1st January 2010. These requests consisted of electrical (9), plumbing (24), central heating (33), mobility access (5), communal areas (16) and general maintenance (44).
