MOTION NO. 16

MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That the Manager report on what supports will be made available to local residents in Palmerston who wish to participate in the Tidy Towns Competition or to conduct spring cleans of their area during An Taisce Spring Clean month?

REPORT:

The Council has recently amended the Community Clean-Up Guidelines, which are now managed through the Social Credits Scheme.  Material such as litter pickers, bags, shovels and brushes are located in community facilities throughout the County.  Groups interested in organising a clean up, apply under the Social Credits System and are directed to community locations where they can obtain materials and return them afterwards for reuse. The Council has recently added the parks depot in Waterstown Park to this list. The Council provides additional support in the form of graffiti removal, tree care management, the provision of litter bins and a road sweeping service.

Following the public meeting in Tallaght Stadium on Thursday 16th February, the Council will meet with local groups to help establish a Tidy Towns  groups in local areas.

An Taisce's National Spring Clean takes place in April each year. The Council works in conjunction with an Taisce to operate this initiative.  Groups register with an Taisce or the Council and materials are provided for clean ups. The Council removes collected material and provides an Taisce with information on tonnages collected. www.nationalspringclean.org
