QUESTION: Councillor M. McDonagh

To ask the Manager to provide an explanation as to why the following trees were not included in the Arboricultural Works Programme for 2012 and to see if their inclusion could be reconsidered.

Tree in front of 9 Lealand Grove (request to remove)

Two trees in front of nos 8/9 and 12/13 Riversdale Park (request to remove and replace with more suitable species)

Tree in front of 2 St Bridget's Park (request for removal)

Two trees in front of 3 and 4 Church Terrace, Tower Road (trees dead, to be replaced with appropriate species)

Tree in front of 1/2 Rowlagh Avenue (request to remove)?

REPLY:

The trees referred to in the question at 1/3 Rowlagh Avenue, St. Bridget's Park and at Tower Road Clondalkin are included in the current Arboricultural Works Programme and works on these trees are planned to be completed before the end of March this year.  The local residents will be contacted in relation to the removal of the trees at 8/9 and 12/13 Riversdale Park which it is agreed are unsuitable in the longer term. The tree crews are currently working in the Woodford, Monksfield, St John's, Green Park, Monastery and Floraville Estates and a total of 690 trees have been pruned since the start of the year in these estates.  Following an inspection of the trees at 29 Lealand Drive and 9 Lealand Grove it was noted that there are no significant problems with the trees in question.  Trees are generally only removed where they are dead, diseased or dangerous.  As none of these issues arise in this instance there are no current proposals to remove the trees.
