QUESTION NO. 7
QUESTION: Councillor M. Devine
To ask the Manager to report on the incidents of theft of manhole/chamber covers across the County - including the cost of their replacement?
REPLY:
8 No. hydrant covers have been stolen in the last few weeks and 6 No. manhole covers in the last few months. This is a very serious issue with regard to Health and Safety of the public and concern to the Council with regard to insurance claims. The cost of replacing these covers would be in the region of €3,000 which as well as the covers themselves includes transport and time costs.
In the Roads areas, 6 manhole covers were stolen in JFK Industrial Estate and 4 covers were stolen in Haydens Lane. The covers cost between €250 and €300 each to replace.
Some Eircom covers have been stolen and while Eircom are informed and responsible for their replacement, Roads Maintenance Dept. have had 2 out of hours callouts to make the areas safe.
