MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

QUESTION NO. 10

QUESTION: Councillor B. Bonner

To ask the Manager to present a report on the number of bottle banks in Clondalkin and their location?  If bottle banks are removed from a location, what consultation is made with the local community about this?  The Bawnogue area is particularly badly served in this regard.  What plans are there to improve this situation?

REPLY:

The bottle banks throughout the Clondalkin area are listed below.

Address Location
Tower Road The Mill Shopping Centre
Camac Valley Caravan Park Off Naas Road (N7)
Corkagh Park St John’s Road, Clondalkin.
Corkagh Park Off Green Isle Road Clondalkin
Grangeview Road Swallows Public House, Deansrath Shopping Centre
Nangor Road Grange Castle Business Park
Old Nangor Road Clondalkin Leisure Centre
Greenfort Gardens, Clondalkin. Quarryvale Community & Leisure Centre.

Retaining bring bank sites at existing locations is a stated objective in the Council's Bring Bank Strategy and banks are only removed when there have been complaints from the landowner on which the bank is sited and when all the mitigation measures implemented by the Council and the Contractor servicing the units have failed to achieve a site that operates in accordance with the requirements.

In assessing new locations, the Council consider the convenience for householders travelling to these sites whilst minimising the noise and visual nuisances that may arise at certain banks.
