MEETING OF CLONDALKIN AREA COMMITTEE

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

MOTION NO. 11

MOTION: Councillor T. Delaney

That this Committee requests that a plan be considered to get key green areas and roundabouts in and around Clondalkin sponsored by the commercial sector to assist with the cost of planting and maintaining same.

REPORT:

The County Council has on a number of occasions sought sponsorship for some of the more important roundabouts in the Clondalkin area from the commercial sector, to assist with the cost of regular maintenance of these areas. This was pursued previously as part of a countywide sponsorship tender, but the level of response to the tender was disappointing. Unfortunately due to the economic downturn in recent years, it has been very difficult to generate significant interest by private firms in such sponsorship schemes, despite the fact that some of the sites are very prominent and are subject to very high volumes of passing traffic.  The Clondalkin Chamber of Commerce has previously indicated that it would like to contribute towards the cost providing and maintaining the hanging baskets in Clondalkin Village, which are provided each year by the Park's Section.  This type of arrangement could be considered in relation to the upgrading of other prominent green spaces within the village with ornamental planting/flowers etc. which could significantly enhance the overall presentation of the Village especially  in the context of the Tidy Towns Programme.
