MOTION NO. 14

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

That the Manager would engage in a public information campaign for waiver customers in the Clondalkin Area to inform them that they will shortly have to pay for waste collection and should be researching what is on offer by the various providers.  Many waiver customers are unaware that they will soon have to pay for refuse collection.  They need to be informed of this.  When the Council got out of refuse collection many residents went with Greyhound automatically and were tied in for the year because of the annual charge.  For many customers the Greyhound package is not the best one for them.  The issue of pay by weight is one factor.  Also, other operators offer small bins which incur only half the annual charge.  This might suit many older waiver customers.  Another provider offers a glass collection and charges no annual charge.  It is incumbent upon the Council to ensure that their waiver customers are given the information they need in plenty of time to make an informed decision.

REPORT:

At the time of the sale of the Waste Collection Service to Greyhound, all customers were written to regarding the new arrangements.  Waiver customers were also written to at that time informing them that the waivers would be honoured for one year from the sale of the service.

Greyhound Recovery and Recycling Limited have undertaken to write to all current waiver customers regarding the new arrangements from 1st April, 2012.
