MOTION NO. 16

MOTION: Councillor B. Bonner

That the Manager would report on the issue of graffiti in the Clondalkin area.  Is the problem on the increase?  What is the procedure for getting graffiti removed?  I have reported and requested the removal of graffiti from the railway bridges in Clondalkin, particularly from the bridge between the Neilstown Road and Cappaghmore.  This is particularly bad.  Why has it not been removed?  Also in my opinion the finish on this and on the Fonthill Road railway bridge make them much more likely to be defaced by graffiti.  Could a stone facing be added? This would make the bridges far more attractive and less likely to be defaced by graffiti.

REPORT:

All reports of graffiti in the Clondalkin area are referred to the Graffiti Crew for inspection and removal where appropriate.   The graffiti on the railway bridge on the Fonthill Road  was referred to Iarnród Éireann some time ago for removal.  The Council is not responsible for the maintenance of the railway bridges.  This is a matter for Iarnród Éireann.

This matter will be followed up with Iarnród Éireann with a request that they investigate the refacing of the bridge in stone.
