QUESTION NO. 11

MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That the Manager outline the support the Council provides to communities wishing to develop and enhance their natural area through the heritage officer and explains how communities, supported by the Council, can form local architectural heritage groups.

REPORT:

Theme 4 of the County Heritage Plan 2010-2015 aims to Establish and Promote Partnerships to Achieve Heritage Objectives, and lists 5 actions under Objective 1 of this Theme to advance this aim.  One such action involves facilitating local interest groups to develop local heritage or biodiversity plans and the Heritage Officer is placed to assist any such established group to achieve this.

Local heritage interest groups, or individuals who wish to establish such an interest group, are currently best facilitated through the Library network.  Through this facility, groups have access to extensive heritage and biodiversity research information.  The Library also facilitates the booking of rooms for talks and seminars for established groups and can avail of advertising of heritage events through the Library’s extensive communications network.
