QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To compliment the Manager and staff of the Community Services Department on their commitment and work, including collaboration with Palmerstown Community Council and the Developer to bring the Palmerstown Community Centre to completion, and if he can provide a progress report on the project, including information on the ongoing financial and other supports which the Council will be providing to ensure the effective operation of the Centre?

REPLY:

The new community centre facility at Palmerston is nearing completion. There is a new committee in place and arrangements are being finalised to formally register a company  for the specific purpose of running the new facility.   Memos and articles have been prepared, and the Community Services staff contnue to furnish assistance and advice.

South Dublin County Council has provided €30,000 funding towards fitting out the centre. The committee are now considering the employment of either a manager or a caretaker for the premises, and again, SDCC staff are available to advise and assist the committee on this matter.
