MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (2)

Monday, January 23, 2012

QUESTION NO. 3

QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

"To ask the Manager to inform the Committee if environmental enhancement works have been included for the West Tallaght section of the new road to Citywest from Kingswood, if so, when and how are they going to be implemented given the stark and harsh landscape created by the construction  of this new road but only specific to the West Tallaght part of the new road?"

REPLY:

The Council is currently in the process of finalising landscaping proposals for the the entire contract from Citywest to Belgard.

The available road footprint from the Outer Ring Road to Cookstown is constrained by the Luas Line to the south, and by the pre-existing Roadstone boundary wall to the north. Over this stretch, the Council has arranged with the Railway Procurement Agency that they will provide planting in the form of hedging to both sides of the Luas Line, in combination with ground-cover shrubbery where suitable.

Between Cookstown and Belgard it is intended to provide creepers to the new walls in combination with the planting of trees between the footpath and wall.

East of Belgard Road, where junction improvement works were carried out as part of the contract, it is intended to plant additional trees / shrubs and / or creepers to the exisitng walls in Parkhill and to enhance the verge (between the new slip lane and Kingswood junction) by the provision of ground-cover shrubbery.

It is intended to carry out the above works before the close of the current planting season.
