QUESTION NO. 15

QUESTION: Councillor B. Lawlor

To ask the Manager, if this Council has considered opening bike parking locations throughout SDCC to provide commuters with a safe place to leave their bikes, thus encouraging more persons to cycle to work?

REPLY:

Funding has been, and is being sought by SDCC for a range of ‘smarter travel’ initiatives from the NTA by both the Planning and Roads Departments primarily for measures intended to benefit pedestrians and cyclists and encourage greater use of public transport

It was agreed that SDCC would be funded to prepare a coherent cycle plan for the area.  The cycle network study is currently underway within the Planning Department. The physical infratstucture required to support and encourage use of a network of this type will include secure bicycle parking.
