QUESTION: Councillor J. Lahart
To ask the Manager to outline how many internships and / or apprenticeships have been organised by the Council in 2011?
REPLY:
The Council have actively particpated in the FAS Work Placement Programme the FAS Redundant Apprentice Scheme and the National Internship Scheme [Jobbridge.ie].
Under the Work Placment Scheme, 9 placements were faciliated in the following work areas:-
Green Energy Management
Local History Studies/ Digitisation of Heritage Material [4]
Archeological Heritage/Conservation Research [2]
Local Sports Partnership Research
CCTV Monitioring
Both stage 5 and stage 7 apprentices were faciliatated with placements which enabled those placed to complete their apprenticships fully. In all 25 Apprentices were placed in the following trades:-
Carpentry and Joinery
Plumbing
Mechanics
Electrician
Bricklayer/ Stonemason
Plasterer
Since the introduction of Jobsbridge earlier this year, 6 Internships have been advertised and to date 2 have been placed.

Art Historian [Shortlisting underway]
Historian [Shortlisting underway]
Hydrogeologist Assistant [Shortlisting underway]
Freshwater Ecologist [Closing Dec 5th 2011]
