1)     Minutes of previous meeting held on  4th May 2011

 2)     Matters Arising  - None

 3)     Sports Partnership Walk – Ramble Aid – Thos McDermott announced details of a Charity Walk on 2nd October to coincide with National Trails Day from Thomas Davis G.A.A. club to Bohernabreena Reservoir. Thos responded to any questions raised and the members congratulated the organisation of this event.

4)     Business Development and Sustainability presentation. Frank Nevin  and Maria Donohue gave  a detailed presentation on Competitive  Business outlining  the background to the report  and guided the members through the objectives of the plan:

a)     Plan to support existing businesses and supporting new ones….

b)     Multi-disciplinary team established

c)      Development of a regional approach to development charges

d)     Attract high value jobs to the County

e)     Rates base has been expanded and examined with a view to reducing Rates

f)       Maximise business development supports

g)     Sustainable Business Executive has been appointed

h)     Publications developed for business community

i)       Social Media seminar held in Tallaght Stadium

j)       Maximising placement schemes for the unemployed

k)     Internships and work experience

l)       Encourage creativity – craft village concept and supports

m)  Monthly reports to Council and CPG

A discussion ensued regarding different aspects of presentation to which Cllrs King, Higgins, Ridge, Cosgrave, Sean Reid and Cecil Johnston contributed.  Cllr King commended the Manager, Directors and Staff for their efforts in endeavoring to provide such innovative opportunities. B Coman Director dealt with the matters also raised regarding the Apprenticeship Scheme operated by the Council with FAS.

5)      National Play Day – Ailison  Silke Sport  & Recreation  Officer reported on National  Play Day  which was  held  on 3rd  July 2011,  all commended  a very well organised  event.  Discussion  ensued  as  to merits of  leaving  the  sand pit in the Park, Alison  Silke advised  that the sand  pit  is  a Health  and  Safety issue.  B.  Coman advised that it is the intention of the Council to have a play day next year, finance permitting.

6)     Halloween 2011 - Billy  Coman advised  meetings with  Gardai and other relevant agencies and community groups  are  taking  place  with a  view  to minimising  damage to environment at  Halloween  - Illegal  bonfires were  way down in  2010 from  2009 and  it is hoped to continue  on success of  2010 when illegal bonfires were significantly less tan the previous year as  a result  of  organised  bonfires  and   the “Bulbs Not  Bonfires”  campaign. Some  initiatives for  2011 included:

(a)  Door to door leaflet drop,

(b)  More information on  website,

(c)   Free access to Waste  Facility,

(d)  Continuation of litter and waste enforcement  activities

(e)  Spooky Walk in Corkagh Park,

(f)    Communities  involvement

A discussion ensued regarding aspects of access to Civic Amenities at Halloween to which Cllrs Higgins, Looney, Lawlor, Ridge and Cecil Johnson, Carmel McCartney contribution - B. Coman responded to all matters raised and urged vigilance by residents in their area.
