QUESTION: Councillor M. Corr

To ask the Manager to write to businesses in the vicinity of Fortunestown Lane requesting a schedule in relation to cleansing and removal of litter pertaining to the operation of their businesses?

REPLY:

Paragraph 6 (i) of the Litter Pollution Act l997 -2003 provides as follows:

"the occupier of a public place (not being a public road or a building or other structure) shall keep the place free of litter"

Section l6 (i)  of the Act further empowers local authorities to require the taking of special measures regarding litter by certain operations. 

The Council's Litter Warden for the Fortunestown area has been asked to actively patrol the area in question with a view to taking appropriate action.
