MOTION: Councillor M. Corr

That the Manager plans and delivers an event in Tallaght Stadium showcasing local bands and musicians.

REPORT:

The St. Patrick's Day Celebration held in Tallaght Stadium last March featured several local bands and musicians. These included three marchiing bands, as well as the St. Laurence O'Toole Pipe Band, the reigning World Champions, all from Tallaght.

In addition, several local rock / pop bamds played to the crowds in the car park prior to the celebrations inside the Stadium itself.

In both cases, this gave local musicians the chance to perform in front of a big crowd of people (approximately 8,000) in a local venue. This had never happened before in Tallaght, and the Council was very pleased to be able to afford these musicians the chance to show what they could do.

Preparations are at an early stage for St. Patrick'as Day 2012 and while it would be premature to make such a committment at this point in time, the emphasis is likely to be on local talent once again.
