QUESTION NO. 11

QUESTION: Councillor E. Tuffy

To ask the Manager if he will advise on the additional measures to be implemented  by An Garda Síochána to manage traffic in the Lucan EA during the upcoming Christmas period?

REPLY:

In accordance with normal operational arrangements the staff of the Council's Traffic Section continue to meet with Dublin Metropolitan Region Garda Traffic Division with a view to ensuring that there is a strategic approach adopted across the region regarding the requirements for roadworks and similar activity in the run up to Christmas.  It has been agreed that restrictions on works would commence from the 4th of December.

Works would only be permitted where all traffic lanes and footways remain open to traffic. Where appropriate, limited night works will be considered as will the need for emergency works.  Monitoring of works will be carried out by Council engineers and inspectors in their normal course of duties.  Liaison with local and regional Gardaí will also continue and substantial use will be made of the Council's Traffic Management Centre's CCTV systems to further boost the observational capabilities of all contributing organisations.

Previously An Garda Síochána had probationary staff available for deployment across the region. This resource is now not available and traffic duty will be carried out as part of the normal Garda activities.
