SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL

MOTION NO. 11
MOTION: Councillor W. Lavelle
That this Committee, noting the flooding at Esker Lane (Woodville) and the problems relating to stormwater drainage in Lucan Village, as experienced on foot of heavy rainfall of 24th October; requests the Manager to install additional surface water drains at Esker Lane and to report on “the capacity of storm water drains in Lucan Village and the regularity and efficiency of maintenance and clearance of these drains” as requested in my emergency motion agreed at the October meeting and in subsequent representations, including from the Woodville Residents Association.
REPORT:
The Drainage Section is unaware that there is a capacity problem with the surface water sewers in Lucan Village. If the existing surface water sewers and gullys are cleaned out on a regular basis, the existing network should be able to cope with all but the most extreme weather conditions. Because Lucan Village is in a hollow and located beside the Liffey and Griffeen Rivers, the Drainage Section is aware of the need for regular maintenance of the surface water sewers and gullys and this is carried out.
The road flooding problems on Esker Lane at the bungalows and near Woodville Estate relate to the surface water outfall being silted up under and within the wall of the entrance to St. Edmundsbury Hospital/farm. The ownership of these lands is being ascertained at the moment so that permission can be sought so that remedial work on this outfall can be carried out.
