COMHAIRLE CONTAE ÁTHA CLIATH THEAS
SOUTH DUBLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
MEETING OF TALLAGHT AREA COMMITTEE (1)
Monday, December 05, 2011
MOTION NO. 2
MOTION: Councillor C. King
"That this Committee calls on the Manager to deliver a report detailing what engineering solutions or otherwise have been identified to ensure severe flooding events can be lessened or eliminated at Knockmore Park & Avenue as a result of the height of Killinarden Park being at least two foot higher than the adjoining Road, the slips at Whitestown stream which exacerbated flooding at Cloonmore Avenue and Killinarden Estate, the barriers at Bawnlea Crescent and various issues that continuously cause flooding to elderly residents homes at Gibbons' Cottages on the N81. That this Committee further calls on the Manager to provide a timeframe and sequence of investigations and works understanding that some investigations may be preliminary at this point".
REPORT:
The Drainage Section is in discussions with the Parks Department at the moment about the feasibility of putting a wide swale in the grassed area in front of Knockmore Avenue continuing down the side of Knockmore Park to the Tallaght/Whitestown Stream in Killinarden Park. The bottom of the proposed swale would be below the road levels in both Knockmore Avenue and Park. Funding for this proposed work is also being sought from the Office of Public Works (OPW) and Government Departments.
