MOTION NO. 7

MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That the Manager address the need for litter bins along the busy pedestrian routes of Oakcourt Avenue and Glenaulin Green in Palmerston and that funding be identified for the provision of bins in these areas as part of the 2012 budget.

REPORT:

The Council has received a submission from this Residents Association to address issues within their estates that involves the Roads, Environmental Services and Community Departments. They have been advised to submit a request for a deputations meeting to discuss each of the matters raised with the relevant Departments.

The matter of litter bins will be addressed at this Deputations meeting and as is Council policy the request will be examined by the Cleansing Engineer based on reports from the local Litter Warden and the Cleansing Foreman having regard for footfall and litter arising in the area,  proximity to litter generators (e.g. shops, schools, playing areas etc.) as well as route capacity, staffing and litter bin coverage in the area.
