MOTION NO. 22

MOTION: Councillor E. Higgins

That the Manager present a report on the site opposite the Beehive in Palmerston Village and advise as to whether this is catagorised as a derelict site and what steps can be taken to tidy it up.

REPORT:

The site in question is the former Tony Kearn's Motors site on the Old Lucan Road, Palmerston, Dublin 20.  This site was originally certified as derelict in October, 2001.  The registered owner failed to comply with the Section 11 Notice served on him, therefore, in order to eliminate the dereliction the site was compulsorily acquired by South Dublin County Council by way of a Vesting Order in January 2005. The site is monitored on a regular basis and cleaned up by the County Council as required

This site was included in a list of sites considered for disposal to support the Council’s Capital Programme as notified to the members of the Lucan Clondalkin Area Committee on 16th April 2008 and the Organisation and Procedure Committee on 22nd May 2008.  Due to the change in the economic climate thereafter, the Chief Valuer advised that it was inappropriate to advertise these sites for sale due to market conditions. However, the Council is now finalising a design brief for the above site with a view to placing the site on the market early next year.
