Update on Literacy Awareness Training commenced during Social Inclusion Week 2011.

The session

• explained what is literacy, and the causes/effects and extent of the issue,
• explored how staff should approach and respond in a sensitive way,
• provided a list of training solutions and options available,
• discussed the practical steps you can take to become a more literacy-friendly organisation.

The feedback from the staff was excellent and very positive.  It will continue to be rolled out in 2012

Literacy Audit: A proposal on a Literacy Audit for South Dublin County Council has been received from NALA (National Adult Literacy Agent).  Plans for the development of the Audit are in progress. 

The audit will look at the areas of:

• Policies and procedures
• Communications
• Staff training and development
